About:
Jocelyn R.C. is a queer Taiwanese American lens-based artist, driven by a deep curiosity and reverence for the nature within and around us. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, she co-founded NFFTY in 2007 (which has since grown into the largest film festival for young filmmakers worldwide). After earning her BFA in Film Production from Chapman University in 2011, Jocelyn spent her twenties chasing opportunities from Orange County to Los Angeles, the Bay Area, New York City, and eventually back to Seattle. Throughout most of this time, she worked as an art/creative lead at various advertising agencies and companies before pivoting, full-time, to art and photography work in 2022.

Statement:
My work is a nonlinear and evolving examination of the natural coexistence of conflicting ideas, processes, patterns, feelings, etc. – the persistent "grays" of the human experience, despite our efforts to create a black-and-white world. I'm often reconciling opposing components, be it thematically or compositionally. While I'm prone to mixing disciplines and media, there's almost always a camera involved and my practice is rooted in process. I tend to iterate heavily in one style, create a series of work in that style, then move on. If you ever find me without a loved one or a camera or a notebook or a snack within arm's reach, please send help.
